Autumn to Winter

Driving down the road,
I look up and see majestic trees forming arches
Of warm Autumn colors,
Red, gold, orange and ocher, glitter in the waning sun.

Light breezes toss and tumble,
Chasing leaves down the road,
Twirling and dancing,
Celebrating what has been.

The sky darkens as the cold hastens the clouds across the sky,
Signaling the arrival of Winter.

Big drops of rain splatter across the windscreen,
Deafening all hidden thoughts,
Teardrops for the season past.

I turn on the heater, desperate for warmth,
Ignoring the chill pushing its fingers into my bones.
A cold wet kiss on my cheek from my son,
Brings a smile and warmth to my soul.

Winter is here.
