It seems to me that the definition of poetry as a genre has evolved considerably since my school days, as exemplified by the incredible number of different forms it has taken at this site alone.

The classic poetical constructs are only infrequently attempted and even free-form poetry has sometimes evolved into a sort of "Ulysses" stream-of-consciousness format devoid of structure and often even of comprehensible context.

Spelling is often apparently felt to be unimportant and the result is sometimes difficult to understand and even more difficult to appreciate.

My comments are intended to be constructive criticism. They are an observation that communicating emotion and inspiration with words is an art form and stretching the boundaries of the art should enhance communication, not destroy it.
