Winter Solstace

Winter solstace in two days
Snow shovels soon to be dusted off
Salt will be dispersed on the frozen tarmac
Ponds soon frozen and young ones skating

Snow laiden slopes for skiing and sledding
Snowmen dancing in front yards
Constructed forts by the neighbourhood kids
Grabbing on bumpers and gliding down the street

Road hockey games go into overtime
Hide and seek in in snow covered yards
Wet mittens and cold clamy toes
Red noses and chilled chapped cheeks

Driveways to be shovelled and plowed
Snowplows blocking driveway entrances with crud
Spinning tires and fishtailing cars
Towing services and batteries to be charged

Skyline of dancing snowflakes and gusting winds
Blizzard, Squalls, and lake effect flurries
Freezing rain, sleet and hail all to follow
Sand and salt to complete many battles

Fireplaces alit and radiating heat
Hot cocoa and tea to soothe the soul
Blankets and slippers to warm cold hearts
Thermostats working to warm cozy spaces

Spring Solstace in four months and two days
A never ending cylce of seasons to appease
Once full circle it has come back again
Repeating repeating repeating again
